Artist Statement

My photography is driven by a passionate devotion to storytelling that is truthful, personal, and socially engaged. It explores hidden and uncomfortable truths by examining the changing intimacy of relationships, the struggles and aftermath of life altering illnesses,  as well as social injustice. I aim to illuminate the after effects of these themes and amplify photography’s unique ability to not only document but also tell a story that resonates.

The main theme of my work is confronting social injustices in order to show how they continue to impact our emotional and physical landscapes. I use photography and editing software to give a visual representation to the invisible scars forced upon us by social rules which create a stigmatizing and alienating narrative. By holding a mirror to the impact of these narratives, I create connection through empowerment which gives a voice to the affected. Photography has an unparalleled ability to encourage a deeper awareness and bridge the differences that separate us.
