Invisible Wounds
We all remember the childhood saying: Sticks and stones may break my bones, but word will never hurt me. Now we all know how incredibly wrong that saying is. Words do hurt and they leave invisible wounds that we carry every day. Derogatory slurs cut especially deep when used against people with disabilities, minorities, and women as they are based on impossible societal standards. In this project I used photoshop to overlay these cruel words onto the photograph to give a more visual representation of the wounds that are caused. By making the invisible wounds visible, these photographs become a powerful tool for social justice.
